The
head teacher of Zen Heart Sangha is Misha Shungen Merrill, who was ordained a Zen priest in
1988. She received permission to teach in 1998 from her teacher, Les Kaye Roshi, a dharma heir
in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, who founded the San Francisco Zen Center.
Misha leads the
Monday and Saturday practice, as well as several retreats during the year,
giving lectures and facilitating study and discussion of Buddhist texts.
She also meets privately with students in dokusan
(private interview) to discuss practice issues. Dokusan is available to anyone
practicing with Zen Heart Sangha and can be arranged through the teacher.
